It may be necessary to remove Windows product key from a system, especially if you have a volume license. Windows stores its license in the registry and you can retrieve that key with several 3rd party tools.
How to remove the key?
- Open command prompt with administrative privileges. shortcut keys are: Windows Key + X + A
- Type in this command: slmgr /cpky
- You should get a popup saying the Key has been removed
